State Route (SR) 252/Burnt Ford Road in Charlton County will close Monday, March 14 and remain closed for a year while the two Satilla River overflow bridges are replaced.
The bridges are 10 miles northeast of Folkston and west of the Satilla River bridge. They were built in 1956 and have posted weight restrictions. The bridges will be dismantled and new bridges will be built at the same site, requiring a detour.
The detour is SR 40 to SR 110, but motorists can access residences in the area up to the work zone. The Burnt Fort public boat ramp will be accessible from SR 252 if traveling from Camden County.
If the weather cooperates, the $2.5 million project is expected to be complete in the spring of 2017.
