US Marshall’s Service Catch California Fugitive in Appling County

Friday afternoon shortly after 5:00 pm officers of the United States Marshall Service, Georgia State Patrol, and Appling County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a fugitive from California hiding in Appling County.
Just about 3 hours earlier the USMS got a tip that Shawn Greene was at a local motel in Baxley and immediately planned to execute a capture. Working with the GSP an ACSO they were actually on the way to execute the arrest driving South on US 1 when they spotted the vehicle Greene was suppose to be driving heading the other way.
They immediately turned around G.S.P. initiated the stop with 9 other vehicles as backup right in fornt of Plant Hatch on US 1 North.  Shawn Greene was apprehended without incident, arrested an taken to the Appling County Jail.
He will be extradited back to California ASAP. A female also in the vehicle identified as Ashley Ortega is also wanted in California but for in-state transport only. An AR-15 Assault rifle was seized in the the search of the vehicle.
A K-9 unit alerted to possible drugs in the vehicle, but none were found at the time of arrest. The faces of the USMS Officers have been altered to protect their identity.
