Suicide Ruling Overturned

On August 18th 2011, a gunshot wound to the head claimed the life of Greg Barile. Just two hours after the Coffee County resident was found unresponsive in his bed, the death was ruled a suicide. His body was not autopsied, no gunshot residue test was conducted, and no fingerprints were collected.
His family disputed the suicide ruling from the beginning. Finally, after years of denied requests, a coroner’s inquest was held. The jury ruled to change the cause of death from ‘suicide’ to ‘undetermined.’ They required less than 30 minutes to deliberate.
