Baxley Police Report

The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
On May 22 at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers met with a complainant at a local diner in reference to a theft. On arrival, the complainant told officers that she had stepped outside and left her and her son’s phones on the table, and when she returned, both phones were gone. After reviewing the surveillance footage from the diner, a positive identification of a suspect was made. Kenneth Edwards of Baxley was charged with one count of theft by taking.
On May 22 at approximately 1:50 p.m., officers answered a call to Wal-mart in reference to a theft. On arrival, officers met with the L.P.C. officer who told them that a person had been detained for taking an item without paying for it. April Freeman of Baxley was charged with one count of theft by shoplifting.
On May 23 at approximately 9:22 a.m., officers met with a city worker at the restrooms at the Baxley Water Works Park in reference to damage to property. On arrival, the worker showed officers to the men’s restroom where person(s) unknown had written gang-style graffiti on the stalls, along with scratching it on the walls, toilet paper dispenser, and floor.
May 24 at approximately 5:11 p.m., officers met with two complainants at a Chad Claxton street address in reference to damage to property of two mailboxes and posts. The complainants told officers that person(s) unknown had run off the roadway and struck both of their mailboxes and the posts that hold them up. Both boxes and posts were severely damaged. A search was made of the immediate area to try to find a vehicle that would have been damaged. After a thorough search, officers were unable to locate anyone in connection with the damage.
On May 24 at approximately 4:18 p.m., officers answered a call to Wal-mart in reference to a theft. On arrival, officers met with the L.P.C. officer who had a suspect in custody for shoplifting. Samantha Gardner was charged with one count of theft by shoplifting.
On May 25 at approximately 1:14 a.m., officers answered a call to a prowler on West Alley Street. Upon arrival, officers observed a person in the yard of an abandoned home and detained her for questioning. During the brief detainment, officers observed the person to be intoxicated, and possessing a VOSS glass bottle half-full of alcohol. Officers seized another bottle containing oval-shaped pills, later identified as Hydrocodone. The suspect was transported to the detention center, where, while being booked, a glass pipe with copper wiring in it was seized from her person. Charged in connection was the incident was Barbara Moore of Baxley. She was charged with one count each of the following: drugs to be kept in their original container, possession of a drug-related object and possession of a controlled substance.
On May 26 at approximately 12:20 p.m., officers met with a complainant at the Appling County Recreational Department in reference to a theft. On arrival, the officers were informed by the complainant that, while she was inside the Rec. Department, person(s) unknown went into her vehicle and removed her pistol, a .22 Taurus Pt22 poly with pink grips on it. The pistol has a serial number of 41463Z and has been entered on the GCIC computer system as stolen.
