Middle Georgia Organizations to Honor WWII Veterans Dec. 7 at Dublin VA

Dublin, Ga. – The Carl Vinson VA medical Center will host a “Salute to World War II Veterans” event on Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. in its auditorium. The program will honor veterans and their surviving spouses from the World War II era and recognize the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The event is the brainchild of U.S. Army veteran Steve Rodgers, CEO of Servants Task Force, an organization committed to honoring U.S. veterans for their service. Rodgers noted that WWII veterans and their spouses are dwindling fast so recognition of their patriotism cannot wait.
“We honor all veterans and their service, but each era in our nation’s military history is unique, so we certainly want to take every opportunity to acknowledge the special devotion of our WWII veterans and the sacrifices that they and their families made,” Rodgers said.
A segment of the program will include a WWII Honorable Service Lapel Pin presentation, also known as the “Ruptured Duck” button for its unique design, given to WWII veterans and their surviving spouses. The pin was designed in 1939 and originally given to honorably discharged U.S. veterans between 1939 and 1946.
According to Rodgers, the award is a visible manifestation of our nation’s gratitude to WWII veterans and their families.
“We hope that the veterans and their families will remember the appreciation of our nation whenever they see the pin and that it will be something that they pass down through the generations. The Ruptured Duck is a way to keep these American heroes in our memory always,” Rodgers said.
The Dec. 7 event is being co-sponsored by Servants Task Force, American Legion Post 17, Dublin-Laurens Chamber of Commerce, Laurens Baptist Association, and the Dublin VA. VA communications director Dr. Frank Jordan expressed his hope that everyone who could attend would join the co-sponsoring organizations for the event.
“We won’t get many more chances to thank these wonderful veterans and their families, so I certainly hope that everyone can come out. Our medical center wants everyone to visit us and this event is a perfect opportunity to do that while honoring WWII veterans,” Jordan said.
