Douglas Police Department Issues Statement on Gun Waving Incident

PRESS RELEASE
In recent days our nation has been victimized by two senseless mass shootings, one in El Paso, Texas and one in Dayton, Ohio. The Douglas Police Department takes the safety and security of the public very seriously and we strive to do everything we can to make citizens feel safe.
On Saturday, August 3, 2019, at approximately 6:42 PM our officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a person being seen in the parking lot “waving a gun in the air.” The caller was able to provide a description of the vehicle and officers were able to locate and stop the vehicle as it exited the Wal-Mart parking lot onto Bowens Mill Rd. Upon making contact with the driver, who was determined to be a 16-year-old juvenile, officers located a black in color replica Beretta 9 mm pistol. The juvenile was detained and his parents were notified. The juvenile was charged with Disorderly Conduct and released to his parents. He will be provided with a Juvenile Court date at a later time.

The Douglas Police Department encourages everyone to report any suspicious activity as soon as possible. If you “SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING” by calling 911 immediately!
