Wild Bill McKubby 10am - 2pm

Hi everyone, it's Wild Bill I have been in Country Radio for the past 12 years.  I've worked up and down the dial all over the country from South Dakota, Vermont, Michigan, Indiana to Minnesota.  I've worked mornings on Z-94 back in 2004 and then took a morning show job in Columbus GA in 2005.  I worked for Country station WKCN and stayed there for 2 years.  I married my lovely wife Marilyn just over the Georgia border.  Marilyn is from a little town called Smith Station, Alabama. I also became good friends with Alan Dupriest in Columbus GA while working with him in radio.   I did the unthinkable, I left the south and moved to Mankato Minnesota and worked for country station KYSM for 4 years.  My daughter Emma Elizabeth was born in Minnesota in 2008 and she is the love of our lives.  It sure is nice to be back home in Georgia being close to Family and friends.  I look forward to meeting and reconnecting with all of you!

Email from Lorraine in Baxley

I recieved this email from Lorraine in Baxley.  Read it and tell me what you think.

Hi Bill,

This is Lorraine from Baxley, I've been an avid fan and supporter of the Appling Pirates.  I understand Byron Buxton has been recruited to the Minnesota Twins.  He has until July 13th to sign his 6.2 million dollar contract as the No. 2 draft choice in the nation.  I however feel that he should make the decision to go to college and play for UGA who would accpet him on scholarship.  It's important for everyone to get a college degree under their belts plus he'll be a better player and maybe get even a bigger offer from Major League Baseball when he graduates from UGA. Just a thought.

Thanks for all you do

or he could hurt his self in college loose his scholarship and chance to make millions

Also he has an amazing offer to take, although the scholarship to UGA is amazing, he could play well in college & get hurt and miss his chance at making money.

It's cold in Minnesota but with 62 million you can afford a fireplace and a college education (for you and your great great great great grandchildren)

A friend had a very similiar situation he decided to go play with the big boys, ended up on the Olympic team, then played in Japan for several years then after all of those life experiences went to college got his degree & is now a coach/history teacher.(with an injured shoulder from pitching) Why can't he do it all?? A college education doesn't mean as much now as it used to especially in this economy with not many jobs to go around. Live it up see the world do everything you've ever wanted to do Byron....college will always be there! Good Luck!

hey 50/50
Remember it's 6.2 million

I think it is his decision not anyone else's & your opinion doesn't mean squat. He has a mom & dad that I'm sure he has discussed this issue with & have weighed all of the odds.

Concerned Mon
I firmly believe in college with 2 college age kids of my own but you are young and you have lots of time. The money is great but the offer is an opportunity of a lifetime that may not wait. I say go for the goal, reach for it, you have worked very hard adn deserve it. I can remember when you were little and you played ball, you were good then, better now, with a chance to be great. Look to God and go where your heart leads you.

I have problems with the pros keeping talented kids from completing their education with the lure of easy cash. He's too young! I'm concerned how he'll handle sudden fame & fortune at such a tender age. Same goes for young actors that hit it big too soon. I'm going to keep young Mr. Buxton & his entire family in my prayers ... as well as the people pushing him to choose money 1st.

Baxley Bomber
Divide $50k a year into 6.2 million and tell me how many years he would have to work to make that back after college? It's 124 years if you don't have a calculator. Ok let's say he makes 100k a year, not likely even with college degree, that's still 62 years worth of salary. Why are we even discussing this again? Lol

leave him alone
I've known Byron for years. My dad & his dad are great friends. Byron knows what to do so let that man live his life. You don't have to live it or deal with the choices he makes. Leave him alone. There is always online classes. He can still get a degree while he plays. STOP trying to run his life & worry about your own.
