Appling County Schools: Revisions to Distance (Virtual) Learning Plan

Revisions to Distance (Virtual) Learning Plan

Appling County School System remains dedicated to the safety and wellbeing of all our students and staff.  Appling County School System’s Action Plan is a direct reflection of these beliefs. As we progress through the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are constantly adjusting. Appling County School System’s Leadership Team gathered input from stakeholders to determine “what’s working and what’s not working.” Based on this input, Appling County’s Distance Learning Plan has been revised. It is important to understand these changes are to ensure all students have an opportunity to continue their academic growth and preparation for the next school year or their post-secondary school goals. School personnel notified parents/guardians of virtual students of the upcoming changes.

The updated Distance Learning Plan – Phase 2 is located on Appling County School System’s website. The updated plan details each schools expectations. The bulleted items below summarize key points.

  • Students in grades K – 12 enrolled in distance learning and currently meeting all requirements for distance learning may continue distance learning. Failure to meet any of the distance learning requirements will result in forfeiture of the right to participate in distance learning, and the student will be required to return to in-person learning.
    • Daily attendance requirements: Distance learners must log in each day at the assigned times to meet the daily attendance requirement.
    • Daily class meetings and video conferences: Distance learners must attend all meetings and video conferences.
    • Graded assignments: Distance learners must maintain a passing average.
    • Individual schools have additional expectations.
  • Beginning on January 6, 2021, distance learning for Appling County High School and Appling County Middle School will take place through the Odysseyware Platform.
  • In the event of low virtual enrollment for K-5 schools, the Odysseyware Platform may be used for distance learning.
  • Appling County teachers will monitor Odysseyware lessons and confer with individual students to provide guidance and discuss assignments.
  • Quarantined students will continue with regular classroom instruction through virtual interaction with the classroom teacher until their quarantine ends. Once a student’s quarantine ends, he/she will resume in person instruction.

Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 Pandemic, this plan is subject to change.
