On December 29, 2021, the ACSO participated in the Turkeys to Toys concentrated patrols, road checks, and specialized patrols. The patrol will continue through January 1, 2022. The purpose of this enforcement activity is to address the drastic rise in motor vehicle fatalities on the roads of Georgia. Georgia law enforcement will be aggressively targeting distracted drivers and seat belt violations.
Motor vehicle fatalities have surpassed the total number of fatalities for 2020. At this point, 58% of the motor vehicle fatalities were not using or improperly using occupant protection. Each fatality represents a family that will face an empty chair at a holiday table, a birthday party missing a guest, and other ordinary days no longer complete. The goal of this law enforcement activity is to prevent as many of these empty places as possible. The public is encouraged to build in extra time to their commute/travel schedules to allow for work zones, traffic congestion, and crashes.
