FOOTBALL 2022 RECAP

The following is a statement from Appling County High School:
The 2022 Appling County Football Team again made history under 2nd year Head Coach Jordan Mullis returning to the State Semi-Finals back to back and also hosting the event for the first time in Appling County history. The Pirates finished with an 11-2 record winning the Region 3-AA championship and only loosing 1 game in the AA classification to eventual State Champion Thomson High School. Once again, the Pirates finished in the top 5 categorically in scoring Offense and Defense at the state level and Coach Mullis was named the Region 3-AA Coach of the Year. An all-time high number of Pirates were recognized at the All-State level (16) by 4 different publications including the Recruit Georgia website, The Georgia High School Football Daily organization, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, and The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association. The Pirates again placed several seniors into the College ranks with 6 Senior Pirates signing to play College Football on National Signing Day. The Pirates also finished the 2022 Season with 22 players above 3.75 individual GPAs and above a team 3.0 for the second year in a row.
Recruit Georgia selected Chayce Smith as All State Defensive Line with Demarcus Nesmith, Dawson Griffis, Dayson Griffis, Jaylen Johnson, Jamarion Williams, and Jacob Gardner being recognized as Honorable Mention.
Georgia High School Football Daily selected Dawson Griffis as an All-State Linebacker with Jaylen Johnson being recognized as Honorable Mention
The Atlanta Journal Constitution selected Dawson Griffis as an All-State Linebacker
The Georgia Athletics Coaches Association voted the following Pirates onto their AA All-State Team. Dayson Griffis QB, Jamarion Williams RB, Marcus Nesmith OL, Dawson Griffis TE, Chayce Smith DE, and Mykel Crayton DB.
At the Region Level Dayson Griffis was voted Offensive Player of the Year and 16 Pirates were selected as First Team All-Region players. Jaylen Johnson, Kellen Echols, Nehemiah Howard, Dawson Griffis, Marcus Nesmith, Jacob Gardner, CHayce Smith, Mykel Reed, Jailen Bennett, Jose Martinez, Sherman Clay, MJ Mcrae, Will Solomon, and Dayson Griffis all brought home First Team Honors.
Second Team All Region included Jamarion Williams, Camden Hickox, Jaylon Smith, Alan Ramirez, Cameron Mobley, Treyshawn Moore, and Mykel Crayton.
Honorable Mention All-Region included Rhett Stone, Wesley Hendrix, DJ West, and Greyson Hall
Academic All-Americans (4.0 GPA) Preston Brock, Patrick Crosby, Dayson Griffis, Dawson Griffis, Camden Hickox, Cameron Mobley, Mykel Reed, Will Solomon, Rhett Stone, Jacob Gardner, and Daniel Perry.
Academic Honorable Mention (3.75 GPA) Cree Brewton, Jarrod Deen, Cameron George, Grayson Hall, Jaylen Johnson, Jose Martinez, Braxton Mcneal, MJ Mcrae, Allen Ramirez, Kristion Studstill, and DJ West.
College Signees. Jaylen Johnson – University of South Florida, Chayce Smith – Middle Tennessee State, Dawson Griffis – Wingate University, Jacob Gardner -Presbyterian College, Will Solomon – Berry College, and Demarcus Nesmith – Independence Community College.
