UPDATE: Glennville Fire Ruled Arson

An enormous fire burned in Glennville on Sunday from 3:30 am until 10:00 am. The fire started on Barnard street, turning the area into a war zone of smoke, flames, and destroyed buildings. Firefighters, responding from multiple stations, arrived on the scene shortly after the first building went up. They battled the flames for more than six hours, fighting first to contain then to suppress the blaze.
By the time it was put out, the fire had destroyed four businesses: two boutiques, and auction house, and a pharmacy.
Cleanup of the fire began shortly after it was put out, but heavy rain has slowed progress.
The cause of the fire, which began in the auction house, was found to have been arson. City officials, in a press conference this morning, said that investigators retrieved security footage of a white male approaching the buildings shortly before the fire started, then running away.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Georgia Fire Marshal’s Office continue to investigate. A reward of $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the suspect’s capture.
