Gordon earns USG’s Academic Recognition Award

One of the greatest academic student honors any student in the University System of Georgia can achieve is to be selected as a state-wide Academic Recognition Day Award winner. East Georgia State College’s 2018 winner is Tiffani Gordon, a sophomore from Alston, Ga. The ceremony honoring Gordon, hosted by University System and the Board of Regents, was followed by the recognition of her accomplishments by the Georgia House of Representatives, and the Georgia State Senate on Academic Recognition Day in March.  This idea of recognizing students from each college in the University System of Georgia began in 1987 as a way of celebrating the individual academic achievement of outstanding scholars.
According to Gordon, “I am honored to have been chosen as East Georgia’s 2018 Academic Recognition Day honoree. It was a great opportunity to be invited to the February 2018 Board of Regents meeting in Atlanta, and to meet my fellow award winners. Each honoree was invited on behalf of Chancellor Steve W. Wrigley and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to enjoy a day of meeting new people, listening to their board meeting, being recognized at the meeting, and dining with the system leaders.”
According to Dr. Lee Cheek, Gordon’s academic advisor, college Dean, and Director of the Correll Scholars Program, “We are very proud of Tiffani and her accomplishments. She has proven herself to be a talented student, and she will have a tremendous impact on the Wiregrass Region of Georgia in the coming years. We are building a community of scholarship at East Georgia State College that we know will have a transformative impact on our region and state.”
Gordon was also recognized for her accomplishments during the 2018 EGSC Honors Night celebration. She was presented with a framed resolution by Senator Jesse Stone and Senator Jack Hill in recognition of her achievements.
Gordon’s vocation plans are to become a nurse. East Georgia State College is proud of Gordon and her many accomplishments.
