Fire destroys Moultrie family’s home

A Moultrie family is expressing gratitude for donations after a fire destroyed their home last week.

The Whitlatch home was engulfed by flames Thursday, destroying everything the family had.

Family member Kane Young has set up GoFundMe account to accept donations to help the family rebuild.

“They lost everything, pictures and cards, Christmas gifts, birthday gifts from the 1st of January and all of their books. Literally everything but the clothes on their backs,” Yong wrote on the website. “Thankfully, many, many fireman came to their aid and stayed all day including family, church family, coworkers and friends.”

The Whitlatch family has three young children: two girls and a boy. Nate Whitlatch is a local fireman, and Katie Whitlatch is an elementary school teacher in Moultrie.

As of Monday morning, more than $7,000 had been donated to the GoFundMe account. Young is looking to meet a $9,000 goal to help the family.
