Macon Vet Center outreach

The Macon Vet Center will conduct outreach services to veterans at the Macon Career Center on March 1.
The event will run from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and will take place at Macon Career Center, Georgia Department of Labor, 3090 Mercer University Drive, located in Macon. Veterans, their families, and other interested persons are invited to come out and receive information on Vet Center services. Staff will be available to discuss readjustment and transitional needs and to connect veterans to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and community resources.
The VA has established vet centers across the country to provide a broad range of counseling, outreach, and referral services to combat Veterans and their families. Vet centers guide veterans and their families through many of the major adjustments in lifestyle that often occur after a veteran returns from combat. Services for a veteran may include military sexual trauma (MST) counseling, individual and group counseling in areas such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alcohol and drug assessment, and suicide prevention referrals. All services are free of cost and are strictly confidential.
Attendees can tour the Macon Vet Center’s Mobile Vet Center (MVC), a high-tech vehicle that allows VA to take outreach materials about available services and programs to remote areas and special events. The customized motorized vehicle, closely resembling an RV, is equipped with confidential counseling space and equipped with a state-of-the art communication system. Veterans can receive counseling for post-traumatic stress issues, military sexual trauma, marriage and family counseling, and much more. The MVC also serves as part of the VA emergency response program.
Veterans are encouraged to bring a copy of their Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, commonly called a DD-214, to assist in determining their eligibility for services.
Vet Center representative at the event Jerry Long can be reached at 478-477-3813. For more information about the Macon Vet Center, please call 478-477-3813. The Macon Vet Center is located at 750 Riverside Drive, Macon.
