Baxley Police Report

The following are highlights of incidents that were recently handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department.
 
On August 1 at approximately 9:53 am, officers answered a call to a local furniture company in reference to a theft. On arrival, a complainant told officers that he was missing approximately $3,100 from his vehicle, where he’d left it. The complainant said that he’d noticed it gone on July 29 and had searched everywhere for it.
On August 2 at approximately 6:56 pm, officers answered a call to a domestic argument at a Solomon Street address. On arrival, officers met with the victim in the incident who told them that her and her husband had gotten into an argument and it turned physical. Investigation led to Timothy Thomas, age 40 of Baxley, being charged with one count of simple battery in connection with this incident.
On August 4 at approximately 8:30 am, officers met with a resident at an Azalea Drive address in reference to a theft. On arrival, the resident told officers that sometime during the night, person(s) unknown entered his wife’s vehicle and removed two pair of sunglasses and a Ruger LCP .380 (serial # 37456732). The pistol has been entered into the GCIC computer system as stolen.
On August 4 at approximately 5:56 pm, officers answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival, officers met with the LPC officers who had a person detained for taking several hundred dollars worth of items without paying for them. Charged in connection with this incident was Sheila Jones, age 38, of McRae with one count of theft by shoplifting.
On August 6 at approximately 7:40 pm, officers met with a resident at a Cypress Drive address in reference to a theft. On arrival, the resident told officers that she was missing a blue Troy Built Tiller.
On August 9 at approximately 1:30 pm, officers answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival, officers met with the LPC officer who told them that they had identified a person from a theft that occurred o nthe day before, in which a person took several hundred dollars worth of items and left without paying. Sheila Jones, age 38, of McRae was charged with one count of theft by shoplifting in connection with this incident.
On August 10 at approximately 11:24 pm, officers went to an area on Lewis Lane to check on a suspicious person. On arrival, the officers noticed a person inside an old abandoned home, and stopped to follow up on the call. After a brief investigation, the person was detained for loitering. Once at the detention center, a plastic bag containing 12 pills was seized. The pills were identified as Subutex (buprenorphine, schedule-3 controlled substance). Charged in connection with this incident was John Davidson, age 26, of a Surrency address with one count of loitering and crossing of a guard line with drugs.
On August 11 at approximately 10:25 am, officers answered a call to a West Allen Street address in reference to an animal abuse incident. On arrival, officers met with a complainant who told them about dogs living in unbearable conditions. After investigation, officers discovered that the resident had two dogs that were being kept in very small enclosures, along with intolerable livings conditions with no water or food. Both dogs were picked up, where the animal control officers then checked each one before placing them into protective custody, before they were placed in the shelter and provided food and water. Charged in connection with this incident was Melvin Mims, age 50 of Baxley on 2 counts of cruelty to animals.
On August 12, at approximately 10:45 am, officers met with a complainant at a City Circle Address in reference to a theft. On arrival, the complainant told officers that he was missing a battery from his tractor.
On August 12 at approximately 6:20 pm, officers answered a call to Fred’s in reference to a theft. On arrival, officers met with a clerk who had a person detained for taking items without paying for them. Charged in connection with this incident was Amy Summerall, age 44, of an Odum address, on one count of theft by shoplifting.
On August 14 at approximately 10:40 am, officers answered a call to the Discount Corner Store in reference to a robbery. On arrival, officers met with the clerk who told them that a black male wearing a red handkerchief on his face, a white shirt, and black shorts had entered the business, jumped over the counter and removed a bag from under the counter that contained approximately $4,000 in cash and then fled out the front door on foot. Officers canvased the area, but were unable to locate anyone fitting the description given. A lookout was posted to other units, but no one was found.
On August 15 at approximately 4:58 pm, officers answered a call to a Speer Homes address in reference to an assault. On arrival, the complainant told officers that she had gotten into an argument with her granddaughter and it had become physical. Charged in connection with this incident was Chelsey McManus, age 18, of Baxley on one count of Simple Battery under the Family Violence Act.
On August 19 at approximately 11:40 am, officers answered a call to KFC in reference to a theft. On arrival, a complainant told officers that they were missing approximately $863 in cash. The complainant said that the money had been left in the store over-night in a cabinet.
On August 20 at approximately 8:44 am, officers met with a complainant at a MLK Ave address in reference to a theft. On arrival, the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed a livestock trailer from his property sometime over the past several days. The trailer is described as a 20 by 6 foot unit,  constructed of hog panels with no roof covering. It has two axles and two doors.
On August 21 at approximately noon, officers answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival, officers met with the LPC officer who had a person detained for taking some times without paying for them. Charged in connection with this incident was Stacy Crews, age 39 of Baxley on one count of theft by shoplifting.
On August 23 at approximately 10:37 am officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for trying to avoid a traffic control device on Brobston Street. As a result of the stop, the driver was discovered to be driving on a suspended license. After a consent search of the vehicle, the following seizures were made: several drug pipes, approximately 236 small plastic baggies and approximately 4 grams of methamphetamine. Charged in connection with this incident was Eric Lamar, age 29 of Baxley, and Ashley Stapleton, age 20, also of Baxley, on charges (one count each) for possession of drug-related objects and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
On August 23 at approximately 7:40 pm, officers met with a complainant at a Barnes Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival, the complainant told officers that some time during the night, person(s) unknown had ut the lock off her storage unit and removed three boxes of Malt crackers.
On August 24 at approximately 4:00 am, officers answered a burglar alarm to the Southern Express. On arrival, officers observed one of the glass doors was busted out. Officers checked the business, finding no one inside and secured the building until a key-holder arrived. After reviewing surveillance footage, it showed two persons entering the store. The first one was wearing a black shirt, black pants, black shoes and had a white t-shirt around his face, and was carrying a draw string Caroline blue bag. The other person had on a grey sweat shirt with a hood, black pants with a white logo on the front left pocket and white tennis shoes. Reported missing was a quantity of cigars and cigarettes.
