Georgia DOT’s Southeast District Receives $4.3 Million in Project Contracts

Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has awarded two local projects for the 26-county Southeast District totaling over $4.3 million to resurface a state route and improve pedestrian safety. Bryan and Chatham counties will benefit from these projects.
Safety is Georgia DOT’s number one priority, and the $3.7 million pedestrian bridge project over State Route (SR) 21 demonstrates that commitment. This pedestrian bridge will be located near residential communities within the vicinity of Rice Mill Road/Market Boulevard at SR 21 in Port Wentworth, approximately two miles from Interstate 95.
Local residents will use the SR 21 crossing to take their children to and from Rice Creek School. Massana Construction, Inc. of Atlanta was awarded the contract, which should be completed by the first quarter of 2018.
Georgia DOT continues to focus on maintaining and preserving existing infrastructure with the 4.2-mile resurfacing of SR 67 in Bryan County beginning at US 280/SR 30 in the City of Pembroke extending to the Bulloch County line. This resurfacing project was awarded to Reeves Construction Company of Macon in the amount of $627,450 to be completed Summer 2017.
