Pink Out Dublin Happening October 27

Fairview Park Hospital, Dublin VA, and the Dublin-Laurens Chamber of Commerce are joining forces to promote a ‘Pink Out’ day in Dublin and Laurens County on Oct. 27 to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Fairview Park vice president of marketing Lindsay Black originated the idea to pool local resources to educate the community about this critical health care issue.
“We all have our own events and observances during Brest Cancer Awareness Month, so it just makes sense to work together on this important issue. We want to do all that we can as a community to make sure that people are educated about how they can detect breast cancer early and get treatment that can save lives,” Black said.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed each October to inform at-risk persons and others about this potentially life-threatening disease.  According to the American Cancer Society, the chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about one in eight and the chance of dying from breast cancer is about one in 37. Efforts to encourage early detection and treatment have resulted in downward trend in the incidence of breast cancer in recent years, and there are more than 3.1 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. Still, diagnoses of the disease each year remain high.
To encourage awareness of the disease and early detection and treatment, Pink Out Dublin organizers are asking individuals and groups across Dublin and Laurens County to be creative in wearing and displaying pink on Oct. 27 and send photos to VA communications director Dr. Frank Jordan at Frank.Jordan@va.gov for use on social media and with other promotional methods, or post them on Facebook and Twitter at #dlcgoespink.
The community is invited to a group photo shoot on Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. on the VA’s front lawn. Everyone is encouraged to attend and bring other interested persons and groups with them.
“We would love to have a huge turnout for the photo. We want to create a sea of pink to show our commitment to honor survivors and those who have lost their lives to this pernicious disease,” Black said.
