Dublin, Ga. – Each year, on November 11, we pause to reflect and honor the contributions and sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform stationed around the world, serving this great country. As a U.S. Navy veteran, it is a proud and humbling moment to experience this national commitment to honor military service.
While Veterans Day is an annual occurrence, the men and women serving veterans at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center (CVVAMC) commit to serving veterans in middle Georgia 24/7, 365 days a year. Our top priority is to provide the very best care and services to our veterans. This past year, we have made great strides in restoring the trust and pride in our service. We opened a beautiful, new, state of the art outpatient clinic in Tifton, GA, serving over 4,000 veterans that previously had to drive over 50 miles to get care in a VA facility. We are beginning construction on a new outpatient mental health clinic on the front of our Dublin campus to streamline services and provide care to ever increasing numbers of veterans requesting our services. We successfully leased up over 200 veterans in housing throughout the middle Georgia area and continue to work tirelessly to ensure every veteran has a place to live. We provided a 12% increase in outpatient appointments, driving down wait times by over 50%, and we now have same day access for urgent needs in all clinics.
We continue to work with our community partners to ensure veterans get the right care in the right place at the right time. We use telehealth and home based primary care to reach our remote veterans or those that have difficulty traveling to get care. We offer a place of solace and camaraderie to veterans that come to us for their care where they can journey to recovery surrounded by others with shared military experience including many of our staff.
We all know that the cost of the freedom we enjoy is not free, but earned by the sacrifice and service of our nation’s heroes. I want to thank all of our veterans for their service to this great nation. I am honored to be one of you, and I am humbled and privileged to be able to serve you as a proud member of the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center team.
