U.S. Marshal Deputy Killed In Long County While Serving Warrant

A veteran U.S. Marshals deputy was killed Friday while serving a warrant in rural Long County, Georgia.
Deputy Patrick Carothers, 53, had worked for the service for 26 years. He was trying to serve a warrant on Dontrell Carter, who was wanted for attempted murder of police officers in neighboring South Carolina.

Carothers was hit by gunfire as he entered the mobile home where Carter was hiding out and was hit by two bullets. Deputies assisting Carothers returned fire and hit Carter, killing him.

Carter was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah and pronounced dead.
