On December 3, 45-year-old Baxley resident Darin Vanness was taken into custody by local police for drug-related offenses.
Shortly after being incarcerated in the Appling County Detention Center, he was found unconscious. He was taken to Appling Healthcare where he was declared dead by medical personnel.
According to officials, the GBI will investigate the death of Vanness. No official cause of death has been given at this time.
