Savannah Metro’s MAIT Investigates 2 Serious Injury Wrecks

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to two single-vehicle accidents on Monday evening, that resulted in one serious injury and one death.
At about 6:30 p.m. Metro responded to the first scene on 37th and Cedar streets, finding Donna Givens Ruth, 49, with serious injuries. Ruth was transported to Memorial University Medical Center where she died.
Investigators believe Ruth was traveling in Hyundai Santa Fe on eastbound 37th Street when she suddenly veered to the south side of the roadway striking a tree in front of a residence. Factors resulting in this collision remain under investigation.
Just after 11 p.m. Metro responded to White Bluff Road near Abercorn Street after reports of a serious vehicular accident involving a GMC Envoy. Responding officers located Jamel Brown, 26. Brown was transported to MUMC in critical condition.
Investigators believe Brown was traveling south on White Bluff Road when he lost control of his vehicle. He slid into the center median, striking a tree and causing the vehicle to spin.  Brown was not wearing a seatbelt.
MAIT continues to investigate both cases.
