On 02-22-2017 at approx. 2034 hrs, officers from the Douglas Police Department responded to the 800 block of E. Cleveland St. in reference to gunshots being fired.
Arriving on the scene Officers found 25-year-old Ben Mortez Martin laying in the roadway. Martin had been shot several times in his upper body. Martin was able to tell Officers that he had been shot by 23 years old, Dario Ortiz Graves who fled the scene prior to Officer’s arrival. Martin was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center by EMS. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate Graves. During the initial investigation Officers were able to establish that the two individuals had gotten into a dispute at 815 E. Cleveland St. During the dispute Graves produced a handgun and discharged it striking Martin several times. Warrants were obtained for the arrest of Dario Ortiz Graves for the offense of Aggravated Assault. On 02/23/2017 Graves turned himself in at the Coffee County Law Enforcement Center. The investigation is still ongoing and more charges are expected.
