Road Closure Begins Next Week in Douglas

DOUGLAS – Georgia Department of Transportation contractor East Coast Asphalt LLC will close Iron Road to thru traffic from state Route 135 to Mingledorf Drive beginning April 25.

The road closure is needed to construct a new bridge crossing the railroad tracks and Iron Road. The road will remain closed until bridge construction is complete. Message boards will be in place Wednesday to provide advance warning of the closure.
The bridge construction is part of a $31.2 million Georgia DOT project to widen and reconstruct SR 135, also known as the Douglas perimeter road. The bridge will replace the at-grade railroad crossing near Iron Road, which will enhance safety and alleviate traffic back-ups. The project begins at U.S. 441, where it ties into the southwest portion of the bypass, and ends at SR 32.
