It was a very busy week at the Appling County Sheriff’s Office with calls answered to a suspected arson, an armed robbery, and a murder. Deputy Christy Williams and Crystal Lee of the ACSO are attending a Sex Offender Registry Management Conference this week. Investigator Scottie Tanner will be participating in the upcoming Appling County LEADS Program sponsored by the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce. ACSO Investigators attended Burn Treatment and Child Abuse In-Service Training at the Appling EMS Facility. ACSO Deputies continue additional patrols in the school zones as teachers and students return to school. Pastor Steve Statum, of Zion Church of God, was the ACSO Chaplin for the week.
For the seven-day period of August 11, 2017 through August 17, 2017, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 14 citations, made 16 arrests, issued 16 warnings, performed 8 Sex Offender Compliance Verifications, served 12 criminal and 25 civil papers for various courts, completed 34 incident reports, and provided security for Superior Court and Criminal Court Jury Trials. There were four (4) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 6,443 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide three (3) funeral escort throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated seven (7) new criminal investigations and completed or closed one (1).
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 88 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 20 new inmate intakes and processed 20 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 102 medical checks for the week and food service served 1899 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 907 calls for service, of which 196 were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
