Appling County Sheriff’s Report (9/22/17 – 9/28/17)

Sheriff Mark Melton, Chief Deputy Gene Davis, Lt. Adam Bell, and Sgt. Elaine Dowdney attended the graduation ceremony of Brandon Carver, the newest deputy for the Appling County Sheriff’s Office. Brandon completed 11 weeks of Basic Law Enforcement Training and received his certification at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, GeorgiaTen members of the ACSO staff attended the Law Enforcement Meet and Greet hosted by the Appling County Department of Family and Children’s Services.  ACSO staff enjoyed the quarterly employee luncheon where Steve Baxley was named Employee of the Quarter.  Chief Deputy Gene Davis and Allison Flory attended the Coastal Area Traffic Enforcement Network (CATEN) meeting in Hinesville.  CATEN is a function of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).  Sheriff Melton was the guest speaker at “Kids for Christ”.  On behalf of the ACSO, Gail Dixon is serving as a member of the newly formed Coalition for a Healthy Appling County (CHAC).  Brian Gill, of Spring Branch Baptist Church, was the ACSO Chaplin for the week.
For the seven-day period of September 22, 2017 through September 28, 2017, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided the following services:  
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 29 citations, made 33 arrests, issued 20 warnings, performed 41 Sex Offender Compliance Verifications, served 13 criminal, and 35 civil papers for various courts, completed 35 incident reports, and provided security for State and Juvenile Court.   There were seven (7) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 8,431 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide two (2) funeral escort throughout the week.  Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated eight (8) new criminal investigations and completed or closed three (3).  
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 99 inmates during the current period.  Jailers completed 36 new inmate intakes and processed 36 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates.  The medical unit provided 107 medical checks for the week and food service served 2171 meals.  We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 748 calls for service, of which 190 were emergency calls directly to 911.  These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
