Sheriff’s Report for Appling County (November 24 – December 7, 2017)

Members of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office attended the Regional CATEN Meeting held in Tattnall County.  Sheriff Melton, also a member of the Baxley Kiwanis, participated in the annual reading program. The Kiwanis Club presents a book to each first graders in all Appling County Schools, and spends time with the class reading them stories. Sheriff Mark Melton and Baxley Police Department Chief James Godfrey lead the 2017 “We’re Sleighing It” Christmas Parade.  The parade included an entry by the Appling County Search and Rescue Team.  The ACSR also attended the Air Evac Training hosted by the Appling EMA.  Sheriff Melton attended and provided security for the Appling County Commissioners Meeting.  Pastor Joe Ferguson of First Baptist Church of Baxley and Pastor Rick Brown of Zion Baptist Church were the Chaplins for the ACSO during the two-week period of November 17 through December 7, 2017.
For the fourteen-day period of November 17, 2017 through December 7, 2017, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided the following services:  
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 85 citations, made 33 arrests, issued 45 warnings, served 37 criminal and 26 civil papers for various courts, completed 40 incident reports, and provided security for Superior, State, Civil, and Juvenile Courts.   There were 27 vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 12,955 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide 13 funeral escort throughout the week.  Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated 11 new criminal investigations and completed or closed two (2).  
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 85 inmates during the current period.  Jailers completed 56 new inmate intakes and processed 62 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates.  The medical unit provided 116 medical checks for the two (2) weeks and food service served 3653 meals.  We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 1095 calls for service, of which 415 were emergency calls directly to 911.  These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
