Appling County Sheriff’s Report (4/27/18 – 5/3/18)

The Appling County Sheriff’s Office had a busy week. Sheriff Melton welcomed the participants and families at the 2018 Crime Victims’ Memorial Ceremony. This event is held each year by District Attorney Jackie L. Johnson and staff, in memory of the community’s loved ones who were victims of crimes. Sheriff Melton provided security for the County Commissioners Meeting, the Baxley Band Stand, and the Appling County High School Baseball State Playoffs. Sheriff Melton, who is also a member of the Baxley Kiwanis Club, participated in the annual party sponsored by Kiwanis for the Sunshine Center. Pastor Justin McClellan of Riverside Baptist Church was Chaplin for the week.
For the week of April 27, 2018 through May 3, 2018, the Appling County Office (ACSO) provided the following services: 
Deputies and Investigators made 36 arrests, issued two (2) warnings, served 44 Criminal and 18 Civil papers for various courts, completed 40 incident reports, performed seven (7) Sex Offender Verifications, and provided security for Juvenile and Superior Courts. There were five (5) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 6,011 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide one (1) funeral escort throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated eight (8) new criminal investigations and closed five (5) investigations. 
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 77 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 34 new inmate intakes and processed 33 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 77 medical checks for the weeks and food service served 1628 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 690 calls for service, of which 272 were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills
