Task Force Conducts ‘Operation Daybreak’ Warrant Sweep

PRESS RELEASE
The Savannah Police Department, the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) of the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office conducted a warrant sweep, nicknamed “Operation Daybreak,” on Sept. 6 that resulted in the arrest of six fugitives.
Members of the collaborative task force worked closely with the Department of Community Supervision to identify fugitives residing in the Savannah area. All of the subjects met the SERFTF criteria for case adoption, meaning they either had active warrants for a violent felony or were under sentence for a violent felony with new felony warrants.
The operation began at 5 a.m. Sept. 6 and resulted in the arrest of six fugitives. Additional fugitives are still being sought.
“This operation is a key component to the commitment of addressing violent crime in our community,” said Kerry Thomas, Assistant Chief of the Savannah Police Department. “It’s through collaboration, partnerships and acceptance of the shared responsibility that we continue to make forward strides to reducing crime and the fear of crime in the city of Savannah.”
