SPD Arrests Suspect in Series of Purse Snatchings

SAVANNAH, GA (February 26, 2018) – Savannah Police Department detectives have arrested a person of interest in a series of purse snatches in Savannah over the past week.
The suspect, who is not being identified at this time to avoid compromising the investigation, was arrested for unrelated traffic charges. Additional charges are forthcoming.
The suspect has been connected to at least four purse snatching incidents in Savannah as well as another purse snatching and a robbery in a neighboring jurisdiction. Two incidents were reported between Feb. 21 and 22, followed by two additional instances that occurred on Feb. 25. In all instances, the suspect, who was traveling in a white minivan, targeted females in the parking lot, snatching their purses out of their carts or off their arms.
Shortly after the latter incident on Feb. 25, officers located the vehicle traveling on Apache Avenue. The vehicle fled from officers and soon lost control and crashed through a fence for Hunter Army Air Field on Middleground Road. The suspect fled on foot but was apprehended early this morning after an officer discovered him walking along Indigo Road.
