A British Great Dane-American Bulldog mix named Mary Jane has given birth to what may be the largest litter of puppies born via natural birth on record, according to Guinness. UPI reports that the largest litter actually stands at 24, but Tia the Neapolitan mastiff gave birth in 2004 via C-section, while Mary Jane gave birth naturally. Mary Jane’s owner, Joanne Hine, said they were only expecting six to eight puppies, so the huge litter was quite the surprise. “I’m so proud of her,” Hine says. “MJ did it all on her own [with] Annie and Ruth of Jane Callow Veterinary Practice by her side the whole time.” Unfortunately, only 14 of the pups survived, and they’ll require constant care and attention as Mary Jane doesn’t have enough nipples to go around.
