Diana Highsmith – 78

Diana Smith Highsmith, age 78, of Baxley passed away at home Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
Mrs. Highsmith was born July 16, 1942 in Atlanta to the late William Spencer Smith and the late Dorothy Lassiter Smith. She was a retired teacher having worked in the Decatur City School System and as a substitute in the Appling County School System for many years.  She was a member of Baxley First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Highsmith earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Emory University in History and also completed graduate studies in Music at Georgia State University.  In retirement she was dedicated to domestic and international missionary work.  In recent years she taught the Bible at 24/7 House addiction recovery center in Baxley.  She was an avid evangelist throughout her life leading many people to Jesus.  She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Highsmith, Sr., two sons, Robert Highsmith Jr. of Atlanta and William Habersham “Sham” Highsmith of Peachtree City, seven grandchildren, and her sister, Dorothy S. Fiddler of Memphis, TN.
A private family graveside service will be held at Omega Cemetery to be officiated by Rev. Mike Ricker.  In light of the pandemic, a celebration of life remembrance is planned for later this year.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 24/7 House (P.O. Box 354 Baxley, GA 31515), Christ Community Church (P.O. Box 1318 Baxley, GA 31515), or Baxley First United Methodist Church (217 S. Main St. Baxley, GA 31513).
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
