Public Safety Announcement for Summer

Public Service Announcement
From Sheriff Mark Melton
Summer Traffic Awareness
The 100 deadliest days of the year for teens have begun, or the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day. From 2011-2020, 31 percent of deaths nationwide involved teen drivers during this time period. With overall traffic fatalities higher in 2021, and more vehicles likely to be on the road this summer, some argue there’s an increased risk to ALL drivers this summer.
An increase in crashes and fatalities on our roads this summer brings increased risk to deputies and other first responders managing these traffic incidents.
July is Vehicle Theft Prevention Month. Once every 43.8 seconds, a vehicle is stolen in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and 721,885 motor vehicles were stolen in 2019.
