Lila Ruth (Cowart) Everett – 82

Lila Cowart Everett, cherished wife, mother, and grandmother entered her heavenly home on February 4, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her loving family, under the care of Comfort Care Hospice.

She was born on April 18, 1941 to the late Jesse W. Cowart and the late Maggie Spivey Cowart. She was a devoted member of Baxley Free Will Baptist Church, where she served as the church clerk, deacon’s wife, Sunday school teacher, and various other capacities for many years. Mrs. Everett was a retired paraprofessional from the Appling County School System.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons, Alan and Bryan Everett; brothers, Jerry and Billy Cowart; and a sister, Helen Lightsey.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Winston Everett; her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Keith Thomas; daughter-in-law, Ann Everett; four grandchildren, Amber (Josh) Griffis, Kayla (Kasey) Thomas, Beth (Grey) Williams, and Abby (John) Roberts; and one great grandchild, Madison Griffis. Her sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Larry Whitley; sisters-in-law, DeAnna Cowart, Doris Jenkins, Linda (Jimmy) Woolard, Shirley (Bill) Arnold, and Wilma (Ronnie) Sapp; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 3:00PM at Baxley Free Will Baptist Church with visitation an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Memorial Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. William Jackson and Rev. Rick Brown will officiate.

Active Pallbearers will be Josh Griffis, Kasey Stone, Grey Williams, John Roberts, Mark Varnadore, and Thomas Everett.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Baxley Free Will Baptist Church, Comfort Care Hospice, Ariel Williams, Anna Kea, Aimee Williams, and Maybell Demery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
