Robbie Pruitt has cemented his name in high school football history, becoming the only coach in the country to record 200 wins in two different states. Pruitt, who has coached for more than four decades in both Florida and Georgia, now holds over 400 career victories, along with 10 state championship appearances and seven titles.
That milestone has local ties. Robbie’s son, Tucker Pruitt, was hired earlier this year as the new head coach of Appling County High School. Before coming to Baxley, Tucker built a strong résumé at Fitzgerald High, leading the Purple Hurricanes to five consecutive semifinal appearances and a state championship in 2021.
Tucker also played quarterback for his father at Fitzgerald in the early 2000s and later worked as an assistant on his dad’s staff at Coffee County. Now, the younger Pruitt hopes to instill the same family focus on discipline and winning that defined his father’s now legendary career in the Appling County Pirates.
