On, Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 1200 hours the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Personnel were dispatched to 207 Poplar Lane, Baxley, Georgia.
Upon arrival, 86-year-old Maria D. Nunez was found deceased outside her residence. Ms. Nunez sustained multiple injuries. Her body has been transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Pooler for autopsy.
The investigation has revealed Ms. Nunez was viciously attacked by two (2) dogs. We believe both animals responsible for this assault have been identified and secured by the Sheriff’s Office.
This investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office and Appling County Coroner.
