A Veterans High School football coach is in custody following a drug investigation that netted over a pound of marijuana and multiple firearms.
Kerrion Smith, an assistant defensive line coach and teacher, was arrested Sunday morning after the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence on West Orange Street. The raid, prompted by a January tip, uncovered:
-
1.28 pounds of marijuana
-
$4,816 in cash
-
Three handguns and two seized vehicles
Smith faces charges of possession with intent to distribute. Notably, the residence sits within 1,000 feet of the former Fitzgerald High School campus, an area still utilized by students and staff. Two other individuals were also charged in connection with the investigation.
