Newly installed traffic signals at the intersection of US 80/Veterans Boulevard and Hodges Street will enter flash mode by next Friday. Contractors are finalizing the project area during the week and could turn on the power by Thursday, Dec. 15 if progress and weather allows.
Once operational, drivers will see yellow flashing signal heads on US 80 and red flashing on Hodges Street. The signalized intersection will enter full stop and go mode on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Georgia DOT message boards placed in the area will alert the traveling public to the upcoming signal changes. Flashing yellow means proceed with caution through intersection for US 80 travelers and red indicates stop for Hodges Street approaching vehicles until the signal is fully operational the following week.
Overall this $873,000 Transportation Investment Act funded project will improve traffic flow at the intersection of Hodges Street and US 80 and the directly adjacent intersection of Hodges Street with Rice Avenue.
A traffic signal and eastbound median left turn lane where installed at the intersection. These improvements will improve traffic flow in this area of Dublin and decrease the likelihood of vehicular and pedestrian conflicts. The changes at the Rice Avenue intersection with Hodges Street and Robertson Street and the left turn lane onto Woodridge Road will further enhance safety.
If an operational traffic signal happens to malfunction, motorists should proceed with caution if they are facing a flashing yellow light and yield to vehicles and pedestrians already in the intersection. A flashing red light means motorists should come to a complete stop, just like at a stop sign. If power is out and the traffic signals are off, please treat the intersection as an all-way stop. When it is safe to do so, please call 511 to report the malfunction to the Georgia DOT.
